Employment Type: Full-time salaried OR part-time hourly, depending on qualifications. The position offers two to four weeks of paid time off (based on a 20 – 40 hour per week arrangement).

Location: IB Environmental is physically based in Atlanta, GA, but offers flexibility in terms of work hours and location, including telecommuting. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.

About the Position:

IB Environmental is seeking an Environmental Policy Analyst with a passion for improving the natural environment, addressing equity issues related to water and energy. Tasks will support national research initiatives and state and local decision-makers.

In addition to policy focused work, the Environmental Policy Analyst will perform spatial analysis and will assist in analyzing data, generating maps, and writing papers/reports related to utility finance and water and energy affordability.

The ideal candidate will have a professional demeanor and be able to work independently on a variety of tasks. The position also calls for an eagerness to learn about new software, research, etc. Qualified applicants who are offered a position may be required to pass a background check.

As a member of a small team, the selected candidate will be expected to support other firm activities on an as needed basis depending on mutual interest. Additional tasks may include, but are not limited to scheduling & meeting coordination, social media communications, and proposal support.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree from an accredited four-year college or university

  • Strong Excel and other database management software skills and experience

  • Proficiency in Microsoft suite (particularly Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access)

  • Basic knowledge, or demonstrated interest, in program evaluation

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills

  • Strong organization skills, accuracy, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks

  • Capacity to exercise independent judgment and initiative

  • Adaptability and willingness to support other firm activities on an as needed basis

 

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:

  • Data management, QGIS, geospatial services, geographical sciences, mathematics, economics, computer science, information management, statistics, or related undergraduate degree

  • Graduate degree in one of the above fields

  • Experience with U.S. Census data

  • Proven working experience as an analyst

  • Proficiency in statistics software and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets (Excel, Access, SPSS, R etc.)

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy

  • Adept at queries, report writing, and presenting findings

  • Two to five years of experience in GIS or data management

  • Experience analyzing and interpreting data, generating maps, and writing reports
